ANDY WARHOL: THE KiNG of the POLAROiD AGE & CELEBRiTY PORTRAiTS

Published by cctadmin on October 13th, 2011

ANDY WARHOL’S Portraits of Celebrities remains the most illustrative demonstration that abstract can be found in the obvious and that details are the natural way of underlying art.   ANDY WARHOL was an eccentric in an age of photography when the relevance of art was defined by daring actions.

Below are a portion of his legendary series of CELEBRiTY POLAROiD PORTRAiTS – including some sexy and some not-so sexy portraits of DEBBiE HARRY, YVES SAiNT LAURENT etc.  I especially love the PAUL ANKA portrait – as he balances sexy-cheese.  Also stand outs are the FARRAH FAWCETT and DENiS HOPPER shots.  What can I say – they are unique.  Not so hot to me is the shot of JANE FONDA – whom I normally love but quite frankly can’t get past the hair and make-up.  In the grand scheme of things I put ANDY WARHOL’S polaroid series right up there with the best of the best in portrait photography.

FASHiON iCON : BiANCA JAGGER

I’ve always been inspired by BiANCA JAGGER’s style. A true fashionista, socialite and style icon, she was a main feature at STUDiO 54 with one of her best friends ANDY WARHOLBiANCA and MiCK JAGGER were an amazingly glamorous couple and went out a lot in the seventies.  Every designer wanted to dress her and she always looked exotic and wonderful.
Although I don’t have her dusky looks, I love the clothes she wore; one shoulder tops and dresses, lots of fabulous things created by her friend HALSTON, the hooded and Grecian dresses, furs, sequins, turbans, chokers, stunning hats, silk kaftans and of course the legendary YVES SAiNT LAURENT suits.
